The NCAA, founded in 1906, is one of the governing bodies for college sports in the U.S. Committed to the well-being and development of student-athletes, the NCAA promotes fair competition, academic excellence, and a culture of sportsmanship across its three divisions. Through championships and events, the NCAA celebrates the achievements of collegiate athletes, emphasising their dual roles as students and competitors.
Division I institutions offer exceptional academic and athletic prospects, providing robust support that encompasses full scholarships, cost-of-attendance stipends, degree completion programs, and academic revenue distribution from the NCAA for schools meeting specific criteria.
Division II places a strong emphasis on balance. While students actively participate in competitive athletics with the highest access ratio to NCAA championships, their college experience goes beyond sports. A holistic approach in athletics, academics, and community engagement allows Division II student-athletes to prioritise academic pursuits, internships, studies abroad, and other personal interests.
A distinguishing feature of Division II is its athletics scholarship model, granting partial scholarships that students combine with academic or need-based grants to structure their financial aid. This model acknowledges and financially rewards students for their athletics prowess while maintaining a closer alignment between athletics budgets and the overall institutional budget.

The Division III philosophy ensures that sports play a crucial role in providing a well-rounded college experience. This involvement in athletics allows student-athletes to focus on their academic pursuits, striving towards the ultimate goal of earning a degree.
The four-year journey is designed to complement classroom learning and participation in various activities, some linked to coursework and others falling within extracurricular realms. Despite the absence of athletics scholarships in Division III, approximately 80% of student-athletes receive support through academic grants or need-based scholarships.
Fuelled by passion, student-athletes in Division III aspire to excel both on the field and in their academic endeavours, understanding that the importance of sports goes beyond mere scores. They challenge themselves to attain excellence, utilising their academic achievements to confront new challenges and cultivate life skills in an environment that emphasises health and wellness.
